CASK INFO: 6 years in charred new oak, 13 month finish in tokaji seasoned cask

TASTING NOTES

NOSE: Old bourbon, toasted grain, ginger snaps, almonds

PALATE: Viscous, marzipan, effervescent, figgy azalea

FINISH: Roasted cereal, tart coconut, tannic citrus

BEHIND THE BOTTLE

Tokaji: Merriam-Wikipedia defines Tokaji as the name of wines from the Tokaj wine region in Hungary. The region is noted for its sweet wines made from grapes effected by noble rot, a style of wine which has a long histroy in this region. The ‘nectar’ coming from the grapes of Tokaj is also mentioned in the national anthem of Hungary.

If you know Mr. and Mrs. Ferati (Ulber and Urime), you know they don’t drink-drink. That being said, when they say something is good…it’s real good. This was one of those drams. As lovers of tokaji wine themselves, it was by no accident Ylli drank tokaji as a child (21+). As mentioned in the RC White Port ‘behind the pick’, Pablo from Rare Character has been able to procure barrels not offered to most.

When Ylli saw that a tokaji barrel finished bourbon was offered, all he could think about was Vin Disel (FAMILY). Having grown up drinking tokaji, he was too curious to see what the profile of the juice was going to taste like. The moment the liquid touched his lips, it was an instantaneous yes. This was only confirmed after Ma and Pa’s eyes lit up after drinking the juice. Done deal.

EDITOR’S NOTES: Don’t ask me why this is priced lower than the other RC for being 2 years older, I just do what the numbers tell me to do. Let this one sit out for a bit and don’t judge it on your first pour. After she plays a bit with some oxygen, she shows her true colors. Off to find some tokaji to shelf at the shop now.
