BEHIND THE BOTTLE
Old Fashioneds have always been an iconic classic cocktail, and at Fiori’s, it’s a cult classic. Those patrons who have sat at the bar in Fiori have seen the AWGF himself pump out easily more than a hundred Old Fashioneds a night. What makes Fiori’s Old Fashioneds like no other in the state is that all the raw ingredients are elevated. While it has the house-made bitters and house soaked sweet dark pitted cherries, it all comes down to what the base juice is. In this case, it has been his hand selected whiskey barrels. For reference, whilst a local bar or pub may make theirs with a $30 SRP bottle of whiskey for their well, Ylli’s Old Fashioneds have a $70+ SRP bottle as the base whiskey. He believes a premium cocktail should always have premium ingredients. No slapping a flower or dusting extra pizazz to charge you $15+ in that house.
Maker’s Mark was Ylli’s first barrel pick, ever. It all started when Ylli was attending the Universal Whisky Experience in Las Vegas, where Maker’s Mark was in attendance speaking on their Private Barrel Selection Program. A program where the customers had total control over their whiskey’s taste profile.
Ylli, with the guidance of Maker’s top brand ambassadors, blended over 30 different variances to find the what he believed would showcase what the Selection Program truly had to offer. It was an extremely long process, but with the namesake of Fiori being tied to the pick, the juice, as always, had to back the name who picked it. The initial blend he created was initially picked to be for his Old Fashioneds, however the growing popularity of trying the base juice neat shined a light to what a curated pick should be.
Then comes 2023. This is Ylli’s third Maker’s pick, with the same stave recipe profile (one being discontinued but Ylli is grandfathered in) as the original. It’s been a hit in the beginning and a hit ever since. 2023 marks the launch of Allocated and the New Chapter of the AWGF.
