BEHIND THE PICK

It’s finally here. The long awaited Light Whisky coming from the AWGF J. Mattingly series.

Like most of the series releases, this was a curated blend that the man himself has cuvee’d. This expression was specifically done in Kentucky on the last trip down. Paying homage to the first bottle released from the series, it was fitting that the sixth expression have a similar label and general profile.

Ylli began by sampling over ten barrels of light whiskey, carefully taking notes and profiling each one. Three barrels stood out among the rest. One showcased the signature airy vanilla sweetness of light whiskey, another featured a bold red berry note, and the last had an intensely rich dark chocolate char. With these distinctive flavors identified, the blending process naturally began.

After 4 iterations, there it was- the final product that deserved to be bottled as the sixth expression of the series.

EDITOR’S NOTES: Blending is an art form. Anyone can pick out a barrel that tastes good- but to blend seeking a specific profile is something else. This bottle truly represents the art of blending, as it has layers of flavor that might not be obvious, but it is for certain delicious.

Bottled at 130 proof, it is one that represents the light whiskey category well. High octane, sweet, but you do not taste the heat. My key note on this was- ripened strawberries dipped in espresso with an orange twist. Absolute madhouse.

We apologize to all the OG FDI/AWGF buyers out there who has always purchased 2 of this series, but we cannot control the yield of things. 100 bottles is what we received at Allocated to be sold, so this will indeed be one per customer. <3
