RE: SAZERAC COMPANY
It saddens me to state that, beginning 06/01/2024, ALCTD will no longer be carrying Sazerac bourbons. This excludes our current BT Barrel Select, Traveller Whiskey and Bowman Brother’s Small batch.
This comes as no surprise to anyone who has been in our shop asking for the allocated Sazerac bourbons (i.e. Eagle Rare, E.H. Taylor, Blantons, 1792, etc.). How we talk about it time and time again and how the company deals with allocation. If you haven’t yet read our initial blog post about why our shop’s name is Allocated, please read it HERE.
Support is a two-way street, and when we can’t carry the bourbons that we want to get into the hands of our patrons because of some barrier. It makes it impossible for us to do anything. In a market where regular Buffalo Trace is technically allocated, it puts us in a bind. To get that product on our shelves we have to qualify, for lack of a better term, for those products by stocking significantly lesser quality products from the parent company. We do not compromise on the quality that our shop has built its reputation on. We never will be a house that carries plastic.
We’ve said it countless times, that bourbon is a blue-collar drink. It should be reasonably priced, readily available and shared with good company. Sadly, Sazerac does not believe in our philosophy. That being said, this has been a long time coming. Look up bars across the nation with regards to addressing allocation with Sazerac and you’re in for quite the read. The game is profit and that is not Allocated’s ethos.
We have attempted to address the persons in power in our local market only to be written off with a non-response. This is why we are here writing this post today. For our patrons, we plead you to understand where we are coming from. There’s too much good stuff on the rack that it seems silly to wait in line for 2 days for some bottle that is to be flipped or flexed on.
Get our shop’s BT pick when you can. There are less than 60 bottles. Unless something significant changes with Sazerac, it will indeed be our last. Bottle page HERE.
RC DINNER RECAP
Thank you all who have attended the Rare Character Barrel Pick Dinner! What a hoot and a half that was. For an update for what’s to come: We have the crowd picked Armagnac Finished Bourbon (#3) and ALCTD’s The Japanese bourbon select coming up ASAP (we will let you know when we have it in hand) with dram #1 (Kentucky Straight Bourbon) being bottled as well for the market.
Later this year, we are happy to announce that we have also decided to bottle the Oloroso Finished Bourbon (#4) and the Toasted Rye (#2)! Too many great choices, so I’ll quote the famous Taco Bell commercial, “por que no los…” all of them!
Mentioned that night, a portion of the proceeds are going to The American Red Cross of Alaska. The core statement for Red Cross of Alaska is to prevent and alleviate human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors throughout the state of Alaska. In our state, it’s home fires and earthquake disasters being the key matters. Find out more about The American Red Cross HERE!
RAFFLE RECAP
Some of you really have the golden touch. Everyone who has won a bottle has been contacted. As a reminder, you have 1 week to pick up/pay for your bottles before it gets thrown out on the rack. Cheers!
