BEHIND THE BOTTLE

Benromach Single Malt Scotch Whisky, one of Speyside’s best-kept secrets. This is the understatement of the year.

Coined by our very own Long L., Benromach is the Springbank of Speyside. What does that even mean? When you think Springbank, or the region of Campbeltown as a whole, you think; farmyard malt, minerality, not your basic orchard fruits and of course the non-Islay peat smoke.

Paying homage to the 50’s and 60’s, back when utilizing peat in Speyside was a bit more common, Benromach is one of the very few distilleries on the mainland that still uses peat to dry their barley when creating their whiskies. This of course is due to the belief that adding the subtly smoky quality in their whisky leads to a more complex and flavorful dram. Those of you who’ve had the regular 10 year, 15 year and 21 year know what’s up.

This was the hardest cask pick of Ylli and Long’s lives. It took about a week to decide who got the final rose. It was well worth the wait, as the final bottling is bar-none one of the proudest barrel picks ALCTD has released to date. We are talking a pure cask strength scotch, that doesn’t drink anywhere near the stated ABV. When we made the comment about pairing this whiskey with time, that is not a joke. Savor this one slowly, as she will change significantly over time in your glass…this is a whisky that deserves to be played with.
